The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV and AIDS was formed in 1992, driven by a strong will to take an active part in interventions concerning HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and to support people living with HIV/AIDS through working to decrease stigma and discrimination. It constitutes one out of the six Standing Committees of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association which serve as the Body of all Medical Students worldwide. SCORA with a large number of members-SCORAngels as they are called, have grown wide in its work, centered around 2 projects & 3 focus areas strongly related to Sexual and Reproductive Health.

To provide our members with the tools necessary to advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights within their respective communities in a culturally respected fashion. The Standing Committee aims to achieve this through capacity building on Comprehensive Sexuality Education and other sexual and reproductive health and rights issues; the exchange of ideas and best practices; drafting policies and working with our external partners in order to implement change in local, regional and international level.

Anti-FGM Project:
Anti-FGM Project:
The Anti-FGM Project’s main goal is to increase the pressure to eliminate this practice, while also providing a lifeline to women and commemorating all the lives of all girls and women. The project is focusing on capacitating our youth with all the tools they need to advocate, and giving them the opportunities to support our cause. Though much has been achieved over the past tow decades in lifting the veil of secrecy surrounding FGM, there is still an enormous almost to be done.

Family Planning is defined as the ability of individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and number of their births. It encompasses services such as contraception, treatment of infertility, and information on how to get pregnant. As SRHR Advocates, Family Planning fulfills our main goal to improve the quality of life and ensures the well-being of the individuals which in turn will promote our society as a whole.
We are debunking the myths surrounding family planning and empowering every individual to make informed decisions about their bodies and health.

The definition of health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. This focus area covers any topic that is related to our health in the context of sex and reproduction. This focus area is very expansive and covers a wide range of topics ranging from maternal health and adolescents’ health to comprehensive sexuality education. Activities under this focus area should aim to achieve a safe and satisfying sex life for everyone and to have the capability to reproduce if, when, and how they want to.

GBV and Gender Equity Focus Area:
Under the umbrella of Gender-based violence and gender equity focus area, there are millions of people who need SCORAngels to stand up in their names for their lives. Therefore this focus area is very important because it includes many topics that affect the lives of many people. This focus area is divided into parts, GBV, and GE parts.
GBV; Gender-Based Violence: is violence directed against a person because of their gender. This part includes many topics as domestic violence, intimate partner violence, harassment, rape, human trafficking and more.

HIV, AIDS and other STIs Focus Area:
This focus area is to provide medical and paramedical students with correctly updated knowledge related to the STIs and especially HIV, capacitate them with the skills needed to deal with it as future healthcare providers, and before that as humans. Such as counseling, sexual history taking, advocate against the stigma that is adherent to such infection, and how deals with them and and taking steps to eliminating all types of discrimination on people living with HIV (PLHIV) and other STIs; especially when it comes to health survices.
